What can we understand from heart monitoring through AI in the body-brain connection in Post Partum Depression?

What we can do?

A Silent Crisis in Maternal Mental Health

Over 600,000 births take place in the UK each year. Between 10% and 15% of new mothers—around 60,000 to 90,000 women annually—develop some form of postpartum depression.
Yet, only a fraction are ever formally diagnosed. Symptoms are often underestimated, overlooked, or normalised, due to stigma, social inequalities, and the lack of early and effective screening tools.

The estimated cost of an untreated case exceeds £8,000 for the NHS, not including the long-term impact on infants, families, and overall societal productivity.

Our Response: Predictive, Empathetic and Accessible Technology

PPBright is a digital platform that enables the early, equitable and integrated detection of postpartum depression risk, through:

  • A conversational avatar that guides the patient through the Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale (EPDS) in an empathetic way, even for those with low literacy or language barriers;

  • Wearable devices that continuously monitor vital signs such as sleep, heart rate, HRV and physical activity;

  • A predictive analytics system that combines psychometric and biometric data to identify early warning signals before they escalate into crisis;

  • Clinical dashboards integrated with the Electronic Health Record (EHR), enabling GPs and NHS professionals to intervene early and appropriately.

PPBright breaks down cultural and geographical barriers by bringing screening directly into the home, at a sustainable cost to the health system with potentially life-saving impact.
